Insurance:
The student need not provide evidence of insurance policy with visa application; however, they are required to declare that they will make the necessary arrangements to meet this condition. Many students arrange their insurance policy through their education provider. In some cases the insurance policy is not obtained until the student has arrived in New Zealand and the enrolment process has been completed.
Therefore they are required to insure from the date of finalization of admission until the expiry of visa.
Where universities arrange insurance it may only cover the length of course of study rather than the period of student visa. If so the remaining stay in New Zealand owing to holiday or work an extension of insurance policy is required. If the insurance is not done the student is liable for deportation.
Working while holding a student visa:
You may be allowed to work for up to 20 hours per week during the academic year. You are also eligible to work full-time during the Christmas and New Year holiday period at the end of academic year. In order to work you will need to apply for a variation of conditions to your student visa.
If the student wishes to change your course of study or university they must first obtain a variation of conditions and approach Immigration New Zealand immediately. You must undertake to continue to meet student instructions.
